These are exciting times for the team behind LITTLE ORPHANS as the feature will make it’s world premiere as an Atlantic Gala Screening on the FIN Atlantic International Film Festival’s FINstream this Friday, September 18th.
This first ever screening also marks some other fantastic firsts for two terrifically talented Newfoundlanders. LITTLE ORPHANS is the first ever feature film written by Emily Bridger and the first ever feature film directed by Ruth Lawrence.

We had the chance to chat with Emily on SEA AND BE SCENE… And HEARD just after filming had wrapped last February. Bridger shared just how much seeing her screenplay come to life truly meant, what it was like to work with such a tremendous cast and how wonderful it was to have the remarkable Ruth Lawrence direct the picture. You can listen to that podcast here.
Bridger stars as Gwen in the film alongside Marthe Bernard who plays Janet and Rhiannon Morgan in the role of Kay. Filmed entirely Newfoundland – LITTLE OPHANS is a drama about a fractured family, their struggles to come together and the divisive traits that keep distance between them.
Synopsis – “The wedding of their youngest sister, Janet, brings Gwen and Kay home to St. John’s, Newfoundland. While Janet struggles to hide her family’s dysfunction, Kay can’t help but create chaos wherever she goes and Gwen finds herself paralyzed by a past secret. The complicated web of relationships between the sisters, their Aunt Maureen, their absent mother, and Kay’s young daughter Billie, is only illuminated by the wedding. Gwen’s attempts to get Kay to take responsibility for her daughter highlights her own abandonment of her ex, Tom, leading them all to a not-so-perfect storm of a reception.”
Executive produced by Sherry White and produced by Jennifer Hawley – LITTLE ORPHANS also stars Kyra Harper, Andy McQueen, Kyra Harper and Andrew O’Brien.

We’re thrilled to have Ruth Lawrence as our guest on SEA AND BE SCENE… And HEARD during which we discussed her directorial debut and so much more – you can listen to that here and by all means get your tickets to see LITTLE ORPHANS right now – here’s the link.
