The Seaside Village of Chester, Nova Scotia has one of the sweetest art centres on the South Shore.
There’s always something creative on the go and on their walls – always the most wonderful works. Case in point the current show – DIVE RIGHT IN by Chester’s own Carol Hansen.
A graduate of NSCAD University Hansen earned a Fine Arts degree, majoring in Print-making and while she’s been a gallery artist for years – her medium had always been pastels.
That was until 2016 when Carol began to explore painting under artists and instructors: Malcolm Calloway, Heather Sayeau, and Peter John Reid. It’s those artists – along with the Chester Art Centre whom she credits for “pushing her off the wharf and encouraging her to dive right into her new medium, painting.”
Hansen’s affinity for life here on the East Coast comes alive in this, her first solo exhibition of paintings. Brightly coloured flowers, lush green trees, and fields, surrounding waters in brilliant blues and gorgeous greys – each canvas so unique and yet there’s a delightful dreaminess to all of them.
Carol considers herself “lucky to live near the Atlantic Ocean that transforms the land and sky in an ever-changing rhythm, from season to season.” She is “emotionally affected by the power of nature and expresses it with rich colour and expressive brush strokes.”
DIVE RIGHT IN by Carol Hansen will be on display at the Chester Art Centre September 24 – October 8, 2020.
