Back when SEA AND BE SCENE TV was putting together our 2014 Spring Special – we were looking for a signature cocktail with which to toast a new season here on Canada’s East Coast, so we reached out to our friends at 2 Doors Down in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This oh-so-popular spot prides itself on a fresh and creative menu using as many locally sourced ingredients as it can – and that includes their adult beverages. Sweethearts that they are, they’ve whipped up an original East Coast special just for us! Introducing… The Mariner Martini!
Based on the classic martini recipe, this cocktail has a local twist: A flavour profile representing Atlantic Canada. Pulling ingredients from all four provinces, this drink reflects the spirit of living by the sea. 2 Doors Down
INGREDIENTS
1 oz Ironworks Distillery Amber Rum
½ oz PEI Distillery Gin
2 Slices of lemon
2 oz Mariner’s Syrup (recipe below)
DIRECTIONS
In a cocktail shaker, combine the rum, gin, Mariners Syrup, and the squeezed juice of the lemon slices. Shake lightly to combine the flavours. Strain into a martini glass with ice. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and some lemon and enjoy!
MARINER’S SYRUP

500 ml of Simple Syrup
(2 cups sugar, 2 cups water simmered over medium heat until thick)
½ inch fresh ginger
1 tsp Crosby’s Molasses
4 tsp Bakeapple Puree (we used Pure Labrador brand)
Muddle the fresh ginger directly into the simple syrup. Put the syrup, cinnamon stick, molasses, and bakeapple puree into a squeeze container. Shake well to mix the ingredients.
Let sit for two hours in a refrigerator. Shake well before each use. If properly refrigerated the Mariner Syrup should last for ten days.
