Our Annual PIE-A-PALOOZA

pie a palooza seasonal celebration
SABS classic post

Two things you’d already know about me if you read this site on a regular basis…
1. I LOVE AUTUMN
2. I LOVE PIE

Truth be told you’d only need to follow me on Twitter for about 30 minutes to be certain of those facts. With fall in full swing here the Atlantic Provinces – I am crazy happy and now… you throw in Thanksgiving weekend’s promise of pie and I’m downright giddy!!!

Still, that traditional Thanksgiving dinner really does put most of the focus on the turkey and so I started thinking – what if there was a yearly family gathering that simply celebrated pie?

A special occasion where pie was the star? And thus the 1st Annual Pie-A-Palooza was born!

My cousin’s sweet lakeside cottage was the comfortable meeting spot. The perfect place for a family gathering anytime of year, (check out our Little Tree, Big Tradition Christmas feature)  but it’s truly beautiful when the leaves are showing off their true colours.

Our main course options were Shepherd’s Pie and Chicken Pie with homemade gravy (Reminder – don’t forget the ketchup!!!)

Proper pie coordination in advance ensured no duplicates on our dessert menu – apple, coconut cream, chocolate, pumpkin and my Bumbleberry pie made for a great selection with plenty to go around (a few times).

After collecting leaves and making pie signs The Sidekick whipped up her special “Pie Punch” (equal parts cranberry/raspberry juice, orange juice & gingerale) – a refreshing addition for sure!

For a more ‘spirited’ refreshment – Nova Scotia’s own Bullwark Cider was served.

It was a lovely fall day… for a post-pie stroll or for just sitting and soaking in the lakeside view… it was the finest kind of time!

Start your own tradition… celebrate PIE! I can’t wait for the 2nd Annual Pie-A-Palooza…and the 3rd…..and the 4th…!!! sb
