Warm & Cozy Winter White

Warm & Cozy Winter White
The Sidekick Remembrance Day 2010

If you’re a faithful listener of ‘Tis The SEAson With The SIDEKICK on 88.7 CoveFM every year then you already know – around our house – as soon as the midnight hour marks the end of Remembrance Day here in Canada – the Christmas decorations start in earnest. Indeed we definitely want to show our respect for the incredible servicemen and women who have so bravely worked for our wonderful country and all of our freedoms. We mention this because as much as we would like to flip right from Halloween to the Holiday style – we know it wouldn’t be right so a transition theme was reached for The Sidekick’s room in the interim – an approach we’ve entitled Warm & Cozy Winter White.

That first blast of snow was a true inspiration – soft greys, sparkling silvers and glittery gold serve as our pops of colour – almost all of our decorative elements were sourced from among out treasured holiday collection. This fancy snowlady with her little “Love” sign seemed to be the perfect touch to top off the antique iron bed.

One of only two new things purchased for this make-over – a silvery grey and cream table runner adorned with snowflakes and trees made for the perfect wall art ($16.99 Homesense). Simply draping it over a tube meant no sewing and keeping it intact means it can still be used as it was originally intended on another occasion. The thick gold scalloped edge ribbon was fed through the tube, tied in a bow, and hooked onto the existing nail. Easy and impactful.

These warm and fuzzy flannel sheets were the other new purchase. Polar bears and snow-covered trees on a soft grey background mean they’ll do nicely now and after the holiday season too. Just like the sign says they’re “Warm and Cozy”! For years I’ve been adding to The Sidekick’s snow globe collection – so I happy to bring out these two snowmen early. I think they were pleased to get a jump on the rest of the gang too.

Keeping everything simple and clean allows for a bit of breathing room between occasions. A trio of silver wire brush trees provides a seasonal sparkle to the window ledge. A plain wooden craft star (sourced from our craft cupboard) got a sprucing with a coat of gold paint before a snowflake and plenty of sparkles were added and dressed with a silvery wire ribbon for some simple DIY art. It won’t be long until things are full-on festive in this room… for now though, it’s a wonderful space for sweet dreams amidst a Warm & Cozy Winter White.
