Our chats will be just that very conversational, not entirely sensible and with any luck totally enjoyable… I certainly had a wonderful time this past weekend at the Women in Film in Television annual conference Making Waves. It’s an incredible opportunity to network with and learn from industry experts and tremendously talented folks. It also allowed me to cross paths with the man who leads one of the event’s major sponsors – the Director’s Guild of Canada’s own Hans Engel. It’s been nearly 4 years have since our first Halifax sit down back at the 2019 FIN Atlantic International Film Festival and truth be told so much has changed in the industry since then – not the least of which is his new title at the DGC. So we’ll talk about that big promotion within the organization and so much more including the technological advancements being made in film and TV production, the amazing database they’ve created to promote Canadian Directors and the steps the DGC is taking to ensure each and every one of their members receives the support they need. We’ll also get the rundown on his crazy busy schedule, get his take on how the category for this year’s best director Oscar nominees should have read and get the real scoop on how his made up crew position secured him as Home Depot biggest shopper two years in a row. With all that ahead we best get to it – here’s sit down conversation with the one and only Hans Engel.
